The Hansberry vision
The Hansberry Project sees itself as a vital part of Seattle's thriving theatre scene, connecting the work of African American theatre artists with a broad and diverse audience. Our productions are entertaining, thought provoking, relevant, and of the highest artistic quality. We are making significant contributions to the renewal of the region’s rich tradition of multicultural theatre by supporting the development of key players: writers and directors.
While drawing from a national talent pool, The Hansberry Project remains committed to a strong local presence and we are forging partnerships with local organizations that are working to reach beyond the barriers of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation.

Our Overarching Goals are:
o To consistently produce high quality work that honors the rich African American theatrical tradition while encouraging boldness and innovation.
o To establish a supportive, intellectually stimulating environment in which African American artists, actors, writers, directors, technicians, and educators are encouraged to do their work.
o To celebrate and facilitate the emergence of new voices, providing opportunities for artists to develop and hone their skills.
o To develop and maintain a strong relationship with a supportive, diverse and consistent audience.
o To honor and elevate the African American theatrical canon.
